Beloved, you and I are as free as we want to be. Hear me when I tell you. There is not one thing in this world; not one hangup, addiction, shortcoming, that Jesus cannot free you from if you want to be free. This is an ONGOING lesson that I am learning. It in and of itself is a freedom message. How badly do you want to be free?

As I was asking the Lord what lesson He wanted to highlight in my heart today, the word “addictions,” came into my mind. An addiction simply is dependence on a thing or activity. Being addicted to something means that you think about it morning, noon, and night. If you can find it, you will indulge it. You will not put up a fight against your urge for whatever or whoever it is. Have you ever had an addiction to something? Well, I have good news for you. If you want to be free from that addiction, you CAN be. I know you’re reading this like, “Jerrica, you don’t understand, I’ve been [smoking] for years, [watching pornography] for years, [lying, stealing, cheating, self-stimulating, fornicating… insert whatever your “it” is] for years! How can I get free?!” Well, beloved, I understand more than you think, and guess what, Jesus freed me! He can do the same for you. Be encouraged by these verses:

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Gal. 5:1

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Cor. 3:17

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32

What did I do to get free?

1. I was honest about having a problem and knowing that in my own power, I could not solve it. Beloved, if you want to be supernaturally free, you have to be radically honest. You take the power of shame away when you confess it to the Lord. Run to him and say it! Tell Him, Lord, I struggle and I want to be free because this breaks your heart. Read that again… this breaks your heart! It’s not merely rules or suggestions you’re breaking beloved, it’s the heart of the God who created you. You must be honest.
2. Godly sorrow is a must. “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.” 2 Cor. 7:10 My friend, your heart needs to be truly broken over your offense toward Holy God. this sorrow that is from a love and reverent fear of the Lord with then lead to repentance (turning completely away from the sin that separates you). That repentance then leads you to new information that can make and keep you clean and free (the gospel of Jesus Christ). You will have NO regrets for forsaking sin Beloved! Just don’t fake the funk, be truly sorry for your sin.
3. You need the Holy Spirit. There is nothing mystical about Holy Spirit. He is the third person of the triune being that is God. Simply put, He is the Spirit of Jesus Christ who is willing and wanting to indwell you and support you in holy living. You cannot make right decisions and stay free in your own power, you need the power of Holy Spirt. How do you get Holy Spirit? Ask for Him to fill you and make you aware that He is indwelling you. Nothing spooky will occur, but when you know, you know, and trust me, God enjoys indwelling you with His Holy Spirit! “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:13 Holy Spirit is the anointing of God and the anointing will destroy any yoke of bondage that is trying to hold you down. “And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” Isaiah 10:27 Do you believe it?
4. Fast and pray Beloved. I said it in a previous lesson, but you are going to have to turn that plate. If you are burning with lust, FAST. you aren’t going to be thinking about sex when you flesh is deprived of food and seeking and sorting through things with God. it is the full proof way to get free from ANY sin and addiction. What fasting usually does is to highlight what the problem is, cut it off from fuel, and kills it. You cannot just leave a void though, you most apply truth (the Word of God) to any lie He frees you from. Some freedom ONLY comes by prayer and fasting. “However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” Matthew 17:21
