30 in 30 Series: Day 2- Being Yourself is Better

For so long so many people “spoke into my life.” These were well-meaning people who simply wanted to encourage me. Some of their words of encouragement were spoken in season and were of God. Others, their message of “encouragement” was of themselves and not of God. It took nearly 30 years to discern between the two. Many women tried to take me under their wing and “disciple” me, and again, some were sent by God, and some were not sent by God. Some tried to bring the confident young daughter of God out of me, while others tried to make me their protege. Through all the noise, I learned, being ME is better.

There is so much that God has done to uniquely design each of us. We are one body but different parts. There are things that I can do well, that someone else may not be able to, and vice versa. My sister, do not allow anyone to make you think that the way God made you was wrong, just because you don’t have the same gifts or make up as them. We have the same Holy Spirit of the living God if you confess Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Check out this passage about being different, yet connected:

¹²For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
¹³For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
¹⁴For the body is not one member, but many.
¹⁵If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
¹⁶And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
¹⁷If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
¹⁸But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

We need each other in all our uniqueness and differing functions to make up the body of Christ Jesus! I am learning to love being me and the dreams, skills, talents, and helps I can offer to my sisters and brothers in the kingdom of God. I enjoy going out to be the hands of feet of Jesus and I love ushering in the presence of God in private and public worship through song. You, may not be able to hold a note, but can hold a conversation with a new convert to the faith to strengthen them in their knowledge and conviction of Truth. You may be able to connect nails and wood and build garden boxes for people to grow a garden. You may even be able to sew up the most beautiful pieces of clothing to keep those in need warm in the winter… I cannot do all those things like YOU can! God didn’t even want it that way. If we were all the same, we wouldn’t need each other, and He designed us FOR each other. So, sis, be encouraged and learn with me, that being yourself is better!
