When I was younger my mother used to put two pony tails in our hair with the big knockers. You remember, the see through ones that came in every color imaginable. Like most kids in my city in the early 90’s, my mom was on a bowling team. That was the thing to do (besides skating of course)! Anyways, one night, we were at the alley, and my hair was so cute! My older sister dared me to put my head through the black iron bars… the ones similar to the ones on a porch of a house, so being the “bright” child that I was… I did it. It was all fun and games until it came time to get my head unstuck! I remember a few things, getting a spanking in front of all the old people, being laughed at and told “that’s what you get,” and most of all, having to get my hair taken down. Eventually, with a couple of tugs and twists, my head was free. How is this encouraging? It’s not, I just needed to paint an accurate picture of what “stuck” looks like, lol.
Onto the meat. God woke me up this morning on the last thought I had going to sleep, getting stuck. He was encouraging me to get stuck in His Word. Often times I get stuck on things that do not matter more than God; YouTube, my newest hobby, my hair. It really can be ridiculous. I went back in my mind to Mary and Martha, and I could picture Mary stuck at the feet of Jesus, hanging onto His every word. I can picture Martha calling and calling her and Mary being totally tuned into what Jesus was saying that she couldn’t even hear another voice calling her name. That is the kind of stuck God was inviting me into.
A simple prayer came, “Lord, please increase my seek.” Now, if you have not picked up from the last post, I pray some pretty radical prayers. I thought through what I was saying. Essentially, my prayer can be translated to, “Lord, deepen my hunger and thirst for you so that like a Shepherd looking for a lost sheep, or a poor widow turning her house inside out for her last coin, I will not be satisfied until I have You.” BIG PRAYER! But as He did, I got to searching out the word “seek,” and here are some of the scriptures I found:
Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Proverbs 8:17
I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.
1 Chronicles 16:11
Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!
Deuteronomy 4:29
But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Jeremiah 29:13
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Psalm 63:1
A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Matthew 7:7-8
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
Psalm 9:10
And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
Isaiah 55:6-7
“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Psalm 14:2
The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.
Psalm 119:10
With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!
Lamentations 3:25
The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.
Psalm 34:10
The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Psalm 105:4
Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!
Sisters, I encourage you, GET STUCK! It all starts with approaching God with thanksgiving and a heart ready to know Him better! It is not hard! Welcome His presence in and expect Him to speak! Pick a verse above. Rip it apart! I’m talking, go word by word, defining it for understanding. Read 5 verses before it and five verses after so you can get the context of what was being said and why. Now insert YOUR life into it. What is God trying to say to YOU? Really think at this part. Really wait for peace in your heart at this part. He will respond. My Elizabeth got stuck on the word “seek,” and what God was unfolding to her was so rich that I wanted in! So this morning, about two weeks later from our conversation, I woke up thinking about seeking God. I encourage you to do the same. He will respond. Do you believe it?
